  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rupert keeps sneezing........

....... So I am taking him to the vets tommorow. He seems fine in himself and is eating and drinking as normal.
Recently I have changed there hay and litter a few times whilst I have been finding out what works best for them now they are in the puppy crate together but he always adapts well when I introduce a new hay shavings or litter etc. I did put them in the garden on tue for about half an hour and that is the night that he started to sneeze.
Have any of you any ideas on what could be wrong with him?
Thanks x x x x x

Does he have a nasal discharge and is the fur on the inside of his front paws matted?
Hopefully your Vet will give Rupert a thorough examination to rule out any respiratory tract infection. If infection is diagnosed then he will need treatment with antibiotics.

Rabbits dont cope well with temperature changes so if Rupert is normally an indoor Bun it is best not to put him outdoors if it is cold. Also, central heating can cause a too dry atmosphere for a Rabbits respiratory tract. Buns cope best in a constant not too hot, not too dry, well ventilated environment.

Thanks Jane,
U cant see any nasel discharge as such but when I feel his nose it is damp. I hardly ever have the heating on in my room unless it is very cold and if I do have it on I have it on low. I dont open my bedroom window that often because when I do the temperature in my room drops instantly!
Hopefully the vet will beable to find out what is wrong with my little man, ill let you know!

The vet said his nose and chest are fine and also checked his teeth again. So I still have no idea why he is sneezing?!
