Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

tobey not eating his bunch of grapes poos anymore

tobey has not been eating his soft poos for a while now, and i realised that they keep getting matted and stuck into his fur, i took him to the vet once to have him cleaned up as i can't hold onto him to do it on my own, and its happening again now, occasionally ive been able to get some off while he's been sitting around but its difficult to clean him so i'm taking him again on tuesday...

ive cut his Science Selective down to about 15 pellets in the morning and 15 at night, and the rest hay, it did improve his round poos a bit as they went much lighter and bigger, but its not improving him eating his soft poos, im worried that this will happen through the summer :(

he did have his front teeth removed last year but hes never had a problem before and always used to eat his poos, i don't know if its because he's getting older or something? he's definitely not over weight.

he seems his usual self, his mood still seems up beat and he still gets excited about food etc, and hes been for check ups and everything seems ok... i'm just not sure what i can do!

any advice?

thanks xx

I would say he probably has molar spurs. This often stops Rabbits eating their caecotrophs.
Or he may have some arthritic pain in his spine making reaching his Bum painful.

As to cleaning him can you not wrap him securely in a towel. Sit with him on your lap and use unscented baby wipes to clean him?

If his mucky Bum is going to be a chronic problem it would be a good idea to try to find a way to be able to clean him up yourself as come the Summer it will need doing several times a day.

he doesn't have molar spurs, since his incisor problems he goes to the vet regularly to have his molars checked and the vet said they are flat as a pancake..

with regards to the spinal problem, i will ask the vet but i hope that is not the case poor tobey :( he is not quite 2 years old yet.

I have tried with the towel but i am not very good at being physically firm with him as i know it frightens him, it is better when he is in a strange environment so i will try taking him into the kitchen.

thanks for the advice
