Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rabbit Vets?

I was wondering if there are many 'rabbit vets' in the uk? I can't seem to find any near my home in Oxfordshire and when I've taken Elliott to the vets in the past they never seem that interested in his well being because he is a smaller animal..

Are there any rabbit vet directories for the uk I should know about?

What you can request your vet does is look up your local rabbit specialist vet - they are not allowed to withold that information. They have a big directory of specialist vets and often rabbits come under exotic referrals.

In fact what is suggested on the House rabbit society website is to ring as many local vets as possible and ask who they refer their rabbits to in the case of major problems - if they all say the same person register with that vet!

I know of one in Andover (Hants) but that may be a bit far for you.

Try the RCVS small animal accredited practices on this list first: http://www.rcvs.org.uk/Templates/Sy...deID=89660&FAVSearchType=2&parentsiteid=89624

This guy is also down as a local exotic referral ( http://www.vetindex.co.uk/vetindex/avian_ref.htm ): Peter Aylmer BVSc CertZooMed MRCVS, Chipping Norton Veterinary Hospital, Albion Street, Chipping Norton, Oxon, OX7 5BN Tel: 01608 642547
