Sleepy rabbit or is he ill?

Young Bun
Hi, could someone help me with this one. My dwarf lop, Patch seems to be sleepy quite a lot-he often closes his eyes. He rarely runs about although in saw him jump onto the log cabin to eat some brussels sprouts that i hung up for him. Is he ill or just lazy. He sleeps from 10 am until 5pm but he also gets tired at 9pm too.

he has started to sleep this much in winter. To be honest he tends to sleep through since i had him whereas floppy gets up every now and then

Bournville sleeps more than Floss during the day, but the champion was Furby(now with Karen). When she was outside in the run she took herself off into her grassy cube and slept there until dusk..rain or shine!! She had a nice warm hutch to go into in the run but always slept in the grassy thing. She'd play for a little while when first put into the run but I'd say as a rule she slept from around 10- dusk, with only an occassional toilet trip to the litter tray

Hello

Rabbits tend to snooze during the day. Their most active times are first thing in the morning and early evening, just as they do in the wild. If your Bun is active for some time during a 24 hour period, is eating/drinking/pooing and weeing normally and is not losing weight or showing any sign of respiratory distress then he may just be a lazy Bun.

Has he got lots of toys to interest him? Changing his environment around will make his natural inquisitive nature kick in and encourage him to be more active.

If his behaviour is something new then it would be a good idea to get your Vet to check him over to make sure he does not have any health problems

Thanks for all your comments. I feel a bit reassured. The hutch does have an opening so that they have access to the run so it can be draughty but they are very clever and push straw up to block the hole. He may be a very lazy rabbit because at night he is alawys in the run and refuses to get back into the hutch when i try to lock them up. Its just that he isn't as active as Floppy so i wondered if he is ill plus he sleeps more in winter-this is their first winter.

My boys a lazy bun he comes alive morning and night but very often snoozing under the table in the day... He is a rather lazy boy though
