  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Pro/Pre Biotic advice

Ali - Loki

Young Bun
Loki has been on antibiotics for a long time now and since Christmas I have been putting Avipro Plus into his water to help increase the levels in his gut. When I went back to the vets last Friday to get the swab taken for his snuffles the vet suggested Bio-Lapis and I bought 2 strips. Since he's been on Bio-Lapis I'm not kidding his poos are like boulders! I would love this to continue, but I wondered if you can use Bio-Lapis long-term? The cost of it is eye-watering, but I would do it if it was safe while Loki is on antibiotics. I looked on the pro-vet website and they also sell the Protexin Pro-Fibre - would this be any better to use long term? I imagine the Fibreplex are to use in emergencies, but any advice would be appreciated! Loki is on SS pellets, veg and hay, but doesn't eat as much hay as he should (I have been trying to find a hay that he loves but it's been elusive so far!)
