  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Moulting

Alpha Buck
Sandy & Mia are moulting heavily I`m brushing them everyday but I feel I`m losing the battle.

Mia is a rex and its very difficult to back combe her fur as its so short and dense, so I`m carefully combing it using my other hand to open up the fur, is this correct or does anyother rex owner combe theirs????

Just want a bit of support that I`m doing the right thing with her, their such delicate little flowers

I use my fingers to gently pull the loose fur from moulting Rexes. Combing is impossible really. If you dampen your hands too that helps lift the fur. I then finish off with a stiff brush and by smoothing their coat with a dry soft cloth.

I dampen my hand and brushed my rexes with my hand quite stiffly, the hair stuck to my hand and the buns enjoyed the fuss lol. I also use a baby brush as my rexes always used to be complete wusses.

I just sit mine on my lap and stroke them til I sneeze!! Then brush off outside - I've never won the moulting war .....

i just use a cat grooming brush to get the loose hairs out-Zelda gets mardy if i back brush her fur
you could get one of those fine metal grooming combs and try that.....it worked quite well until i lost it
