  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

i was reading this article and surprised to read the about the "beads" that were made up by the vet and paced inside the excised area..packing it to slow release the anibitotics directly where it was needed along with the other anibiotics.

several years ago my niece said her rabbits eyball had pooped maybe on a bit of straw..then i learnt it was from an abscess..

i know rabbit pus is very thick..toothpaste like consistency..so excuse me for being simple but how do they drain them..by putting in a wide tube and leaving it to drain? thats what happened to me many years ago with sinus infections that became impacted and resulted in a drain and iv antibiotics for a fortnight..if that wa sme..how does a bunny get it treated/

I have read so many upsetting threads here on bunys abcess..is it worth while having a health pinned thread on symptoms..one for these horrific balls of pus that inflict so much damage and other things to watch ofr that arent always in the the most obvious list..like vhd myxi..snuffles..etc.
i mean whats the symptom of a lop with an ear infection? Whats a heamatoma and arent they only on ears..um nope..

or do we already have our own forum rabbitlopeadia and i have missed the thread as i always do..im so ditsy!

just a thought.. 8)

HI when pistacio lost her eye just over a week ago to an abscess I first noticed it because she had a weepy eye and it looked swollen. They removed the eye and packed the wound with antibiotics. Then put a drain in, which just kept the wound open so I could flush it through. She is doing ok but is back indoors as there was a bit of pus so am flushing it with hibiscrub and diluted hydrogen peroxide and so far it seems to be going well. Just a lot of work!! x Jess
