  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Neutering Advice Please!

New Kit
I've had my rabbit Skippy since he was 10 months old (this makes him 4yrs old) but he is not neutered. His behaviour is sometimes VERY bad, inparticularly when he will chase me around the house and then out of the blue cover me or my husband in urine, not nice i'm sure you'll all agree! He also has a go at mounting anything and everything he can find. I realise this is Skippy's hormones working (or not!) overtime but i am worried as he is 4yrs old that getting him neutered wouldn't be a good idea, is he too old to recover totally from the op? Any advice/thoughts gratefully received.

Thanks in advance!

i am unsure whether it different for females but i just had my 6+ year old girl done and she is fine, her behaviour has changed a little but i am unsure if it has anything to do with her spey, as for the op it was far better to have her done than to leave her as she was, Not much help am i? :D you know what i mean though! x

Thanks for the replies, guess i just wanted my mind to be put at ease before i decide, i don't want to put skippy through anything unpleasant.

:D :D Skippy is sat next to me looking very solemn, maybe he knows what's coming bless him! Thanks for your help.
