For those who read my post yesterday i am looking into getting Twinkle spayed - i just wondered if people could tell me the risks and positives - i am getting it done - i just want to be fully prepared for it.

Also i am on half term next week so shall i get it done then? Do you really think it will make their bond stronger? I am a bit concerned about Dobbin chasing Twinkle when she is not feeling 100%.

All advise and help is hugely appreciated.

Thank you very much.

Points for Spaying:
1-Major lonterm health benefits as 80% of Does aged 3+ get uterine cancer. There is also the risk of pyometra (womb infection) and uterine haemorrhages.

2-Reduction of hormonal behaviour (pseudo-pregnancy, territorial aggression)

3-Obviously spaying prevents any possibility of pregnancy

Points against:

1-VERY SMALL risk regarding GA .

There are lots of threads in the 'Care' section giving advice re spay aftercare so you could have a read of them using the Forum 'search' facility. Here is one for starters

On the subject of spaying, does anyone know if there is more of an anaesthetic risk with large buns such as frenchies? I've heard that there is, but I'm not sure if this is correct.

My Vet uses a different GA for the very big Bunnies :D

I eas very worried about getting my girls speyed, I didn't think I would be able to cope with the post op care

However, Sooty, my 4 year old, had 2 massive uterine bleeds so the decision was taken out of my hands. I then had Tinkerbell, my 1 year old, speyed the week after Sooty.

I found the post op care easy in the end! They were both a bit quiet for the first 2 days, but were back to their normal selves within a week.

I used the puppy training pads in their litter trays instead of hay for a few days and found them to be a godsend.

I'd definately get her spayed during the half term week as you will be able to keep an eye on her :)

Good luck!

I had Honey spayed 3 weeks ago - she's a Frenchie. They didn't have to reverse the anaesthetic as she woke up by herself and to be honest it wasn't until two days after when I checked her wound that I was convinced they'd done anything to her! I didn't see any difference in her, she wasn't even quieter than usual, I just put her in a pen in the utility room for a few days so i could keep an eye on her. She's now bonded with Jasper which also went smoothly and is lovely to see. I've probably been lucky but wouldn't think twice about having a bun spayed again.
