Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Bunny with funny head movements! Good vet in Manchester??

Just wondering, ever since i got my minilop Poppy (she's 9 months now) she's sat there moving her head slowly from side to side constantly. She does it even when she thinks nobody's watching/near her so its not an attention thing! Anyone seen this before? She's in great health etc. Also, really want to get her spayed but would like to be recommended a good vet in Manchester thats reasonably priced. I'm based in the Worsley area, 5 mins away from Trafford Centre. Thanks xx

Is Poppy a red eyed white bun? If so this is quite typical of the breed as they scan due to poor eyesight.
If she isn't a REW then she still sounds as though she is scanning and could maybe have trouble with her eyesight.
I think a vet trip is in order but can't help with the Manchester area - I'm sure others will be on to answer you about that :D

there is a place called pet medics that kayj uses they are supposed to be ok the others I know are on the other side of manchester

If she is a white bunny, then it's quite normal. Most of my white ones did that when they first came here, but stop it once they are settled in and comfortable.

oh and one more question, she's 9 months old and is a timid thing, she's been handled loads but she's just shy in nature but very friendly, will jump on your lap and sit there for ages and has never gone to the toilet while in the house etc (she's an outdoors bunny). i really want to get her a friend and have been looking at your rescue bunny's on the website. is she an ok age to be bonded with another bunny and do you have any males that have already been neutered that would suit a timid and laid back bunny? preferably around the same age. she's a rew and is relatively small. she is to be neutered in the next couple of weeks

i use trafford vet centre which is 5 minutes away from the trafford centre,

the vets who is on in the morning seems to be the most knowledgable, but in my experience both have been good

its address is

We just took a baby bun to the vets for the same thing and he said it was short sightedness, just watch your fingers, sometimes they can't tell a treat from flesh. :p

Most bunnies don't like being picked up off the floor so that's quite normal - even more so if her eyesight is bad. Even if she enjoys a fuss, most bunnies like to keep all four paws firmly on the ground! Our China is a REW but she doesn't seem to have poor eyes, but our late mouse Cloud was a REW and he used to "scan" like that, I found it cute! :)

9 months is fine for bonding but I'd wait until she's been spayed and then fully recovered from the op (a couple of weeks I'd say, just to let the wound heal fully). As she is an outdoor bunny you should also bring her inside after the op as you need to keep her nice and warm and keep a close eye on her to see if she's eating and pooping properly. You can search on Rabbit Rehome for a bunny by age, sex, location, and whether they have been castrated, so you should be able to find a friend for her without any trouble. :) Good luck!

I rescued a bunny from PAH who did exactly the same as your rabbit, and my local rabbit rescue lady took him in, and the Vet said the same as the other person on here said that he was short sighted, but always worth getting them checked out.I

I live in Warrington, and my rabbits was very ill, and I rang the RWA who recommended the Ashleigh Veterinary Practice in Mancester, they specialise in all exotic vets, as I didnt really know how to get there they asked me if I knew Liverpool and so I went to one they recommended there.

My normal vet completely wrongly diagnosed my rabbits illness this one in Liverpool saved his life.

Good luck, Carole

Good luck, Carole

ashleigh vets is in chorlton so still not too far away from you if you have a car

bonding

is it absolutely necessary to spay the female to be bonded with a neutered male - am just so scared of having her done in case i lose her

Spaying is highly recommended whether or not she is being bonded with another rabbit, as the incidence of uterine cancer is as high as 80% unspayed does. The risk of cancer is far, far higher than the risk of a post-op fatality.

Funny head movements

Just read about the bunnies with swaying heads. My REW does it frequently and my vet thought it was a stroke. Really relieved if it's not because I'd really like to get him neutered to be a companion for another of my bunnies. :) Think I'll find a second opinion from another vet. Have you had your bunny "done" yet?

I think its cute when Poppy does it, but i didn't know what on earth she was doing when we first got her! Not had her spayed yet, am still so nervous! Possibly next week when i've got 3 full days off uni & work to look after her after the op. Really worried for her though but i feel its something that needs to be done - plus i can afford it right now so should do it before i chicken out and can't afford it! Then its gona be my mission to find her a hubby!! x

The scanning is quite cute! My REW actually doesn't scan, but I have a lionhead buck with an unusual bluey grey eyes who does scan. My grandparents brought him to me as they had heard that the breeders were trying to get shot of him pretty quickly, perhaps they also thought that something was wrong with him. Oh well, their loss is my gain :D
