  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Why is Lillie reluctant to eat? Updated Mon 4:15pm

Pepsi's People

Alpha Buck
Our new bun Lillie (aka Wendy) who we only adopted last Saturday, stopped eating on Wednesday. I found her food untouched on Thursday and the hutch which I cleaned out the previous night was missing the normal pile of poos. Our vet checked her over, gave her painkiller & gut stimulant & said to bring her back in 24hrs if no improvement. She wouldn't eat by herself but would eat a little carrot or spring green if I fed it to her, but started to push it away or pounce on it after a short while.
I took her back to the vets last night & they kept her in so they could monitor her & syringe feed her (I'm useless at it ). Today they tell me she's still not eating by herself and that a dental may be needed.
Elaine, who we adopted her from, says her teeth were given the all clear less than a month ago when she had her spay (checked whilst under GA).
So if it isn't her teeth, what else could it be?

Are you giving her the same food or have you changed it? Same for hay? They can be very fussy can't they?

Other than that, I'd get her teeth checked again.

sadly some bunies teeth can grow that quickly :( or maybe its gi stasis from food change or just change of scenery can unerve thema little..but to be honest id say teeth everytime..especially if theyre lops of any kind or nethies.

As Elaine posted on your stories and photos, she has eaten about 1/4 food in bowl, a bit of carrot and there is a pile of poo!!

I just have to say I am :D
right now!

Kirsty x

PS Thanks Elaine, and keep it up Lillie (aka Wendy/Mrs Mop) :D
