Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Not eating!

Skye

Young Bun
My bunny Tilly has stopped eating her pellets over the last few days, she is still eating her veg. and a small amount of hay but hasn't touched her pellets in two days. She seems happy and healthy in herself nothing unusaul expect not eating her pellets! She normaly finishes all her pellets so it's a bit unusual for her not to.

I'm not sure what to do or what could be wrong with her, any advice would be great, thanks

I would take Tilly to your Vet as she may have problems with her teeth making it difficult for her to eat hard food.
Do you feed Science Selective Pellets? If so the 'recipe' has changed in recent batches (the pellets are lighter and harder) and some Bunnies dont like them. So this could be a possibility if you feed SS
You need to ensure that Tilly's guts dont slow down due to not eating enough fibre and POSSIBLE dental discomfort so the sooner she is checked over the better.
If her poo is already smaller than normal and fewer in quantity this indicates reduced gut motility which needs prompt treatment

Tilly was at the vet last week for her myxi vac and was checked over and her teeth were fine, her poo's are normal. She is only 16/17 weeks would her teeth be a problem at this age?

Unlikely but any change in eating habbits that does not resolve within 24 hours needs attention. Of course a complete refusal of food needs attention immediately. Did she stop eating her pellets straight after her Myxi Vacc? Is she still eating LOTS of hay?

She is eating her normal amount of hay. She had her myxi a week past Tuesday and stopped eating her pellets on Wednesday this week but is eating her veg and her hay.

sounds like the pellets are what the trouble is..the ss debate rumbles on..and its happened to excel as well in the past.
HOWEVER it may be teeth related..nevr take no for an answer..teeth spurs grow sometimes out of complete view..even for the best bun vet!
We had a darf lop doe years ago and by the time they wanted to spay her at 4 months she already had a molar problem!
