  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

When you get in an unvaccinated, entire rabbit, what order do you do the vaccs and neutering in? Do you wait any period of time first? Does it make any difference if it is a buck or a doe?
Thankyou!

I'd start the vaccinations and when there arrange the neutering. Remember, too, that that myxi and VHD jabs have to be about 2 weeks apart. The gender of the rabbit doesn't matter.

Going on what i can afford I neuter rabbits and then vaccinate if funds allow. i would rather get owners to vaccinate than neuter because this way I know the buns cannot be bred from and bring yet more unwanted bunnies into the world.

What we usually do at the rescue I foster for is, myxi first- after an initial 2 or 3 day settling in period and to check bun is eating/pooing ok etc. Then neuter, a week or so later. If all is well they have their VHD a week or two after that.
If a doe is suspected to be pregnant then we don't give them their myxi but that is the only difference in treatment between bucks and does. :)
