  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

does a rabbit stay indoors after castration???? My rabbit Charlie has been castrated today and i do plan to keep him in tonight, but he really prefers outdoors as he is quite nervous indoors. I have only had him a couple of weeks and he hasent been in the house alot. He lives outside in a playhouse with attached run and also has a snugglesafe heatpad, would he be o.k to go back out tomorrow if i remove all straw and just have hay in a rack? Or should i wait til his checkup at the vets on friday? :D thanks

I'm having my bun neauetd tomorrow :( Fudge hates being in the house so he's going back into his poppy house tomorrow :( I'm removing all shavings, hay & straw. I have borrowed a heatpad & I'll make sure he has towels & blankets to lie on... Ideally he should be inside but this will stress him so much if he does..

I do tend to keep mine inside overnight as the general anaesthetic tends to make them cold and its hard for them to warm up. I use vet bed and towels as bedding. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies, I think Charlie would prefer to be outside but he is a little groggy at the moment in a corner of the dining room down the side of the settee with his snugglesafe and towels, he seems settled for tonight but tommorrow i think he will prefer to go out. I will use towels as his blanket as bedding in the playhouse tomorrow and put him back out, thanks :)
