Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rabbit savvy vet in Bristol?

Ali - Loki

Young Bun
I wonder if anyone knows of a rabbit savvy vet in Bristol? I am planning to ring the RWA tomorrow, but I wondered if anyone had any recommendations. We seem to be going no-where with Loki's snuffles treatment and our vet doesn't seem particularly keen to even hold Loki when he is looking at him. We also had a particularly stressful claw clipping experience too where he just didn't seem comfortable handling him if anyone has any recommendations I would be so grateful.

The vet school is amazing for bunnies as they have two vets which specialise in them. It's quite a way out, and expensive, but definitely worth it.

If it's too far for you, my vet has been really good in treating both my bubs. They're in Filton. Let me know if you need their details!

Thank you! I had heard of the rabbit clinic, but a friend had been told that it was referrals only. I went to another vet this morning who specialises in exotics and small mammals and they seemed really good. The vet there did a thorough examination including Loki's back teeth (!) Trust my bun though the discharge of the night before seemed to clear while waiting to see the vet and he sat there looking all well and bright while she looked over him! I don't think she believed I had bought in the same rabbit!

Oh, who's the specialist? Didn't know we had one in Brizzle!

You can see the small animal clinic in Langford (Bristol Uni Vet school), and they'll refer you to the rabbit vets if necessary. :)

I found out about them on the RCVS website, although I don't think that they are Rabbit specialists they do see lots of small mammals. I was realy impressed with the way they handled Loki and they gave him a thorough inspection (she expressed suprise that my previous vet hadn't checked Loki's teeth as a possible cause of the snuffles). They are just off Gloucester Road and have a veterinary hospital - I felt that we had been taken care of much better and wasn't made to feel like a lunatic rabbit mummy (for a change)!
