  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Trip to the vets

Molly and Piper went to the vets yesterday for their check-up and myxi vaccinations.

The vet was much better than the last time I went - seemed to do a really thorough check on them this time so I am much happier about using the same vet again now.

He said Molly had a lovely set of teeth. She is such a show-off!

I was worried about Piper's teeth as he sometimes gets weepy eyes when eating. The vet checked him over and said his teeth are fine. Phew! :D

He also weighed Piper and he was 2.75kg. He said this was on the top end of healthy so Piper is fine but not to let him get any fatter. It's hard to see why Piper is the heavier rabbit of the two - Molly eats her pellets and then some of Piper's every day and she is a bigger bunny too (longer bone structure).

Maybe he is just lazy!

I think Piper must be quite small for a 'standard' rex.

Does anyone know how long a standard rex is supposed to be? :? And how do you measure length?
