Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Matted fur

This afternoon when i gave Buttons his panacur he had a piece of poo stuck to his fur that i couldn't brush out so i cut it of being sure to watch his bunny hood  There was still a small clogged bit of fur from when i first found him so tried brushing that to but i ended up cutting a small piece of fur of to. I decided to check him and it seems he has quite a few small matted areas underneath but i can't go cutting it all of i'm nevous i might cut his bunny hood off by accident, whats the best way to try unclogging his fur so i can brush it of. Can i put him in a small tub of water, with just a couple of centimetres of water to unglog it :?

If it's matted then washing won't unclog it - it's like a big tangle of fur. The only thing to do is either cut them out or pull/brush them out. Pulling or brushing them out is a pretty uncomfortable thing for the rabbit though.

Try getting someone else to hold him and using a pair of baby nail scissors (they have round ends so less danger of hurting him if he wriggles) to cut out the mats. Be very careful as bunny skin is very delicate and cuts easily - if I cut mats, I put my fingers between the skin and the mat and just cut the bits above my fingers.

Thanks Nix, i'll have to invest in some rounded scissors. I only have proper sharp point ones and since he's still abit scared and can be quite wriggley i would feel to scared to use them.
