  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Flopsy's chest problems

flopsy752

Young Bun
My rabbit Flopsy(the picture below) has really bad chest problems and sometimes his nose can get filled up with snot(not to sound rude or anything though.) Is there anything i can do to stop this?

You need to take Flopsy to the Vet straight away as any Respiratory Tract (nose/throat/chest) problems in a Rabbit need immediate Veterinary attention and treatment usually involves antibiotics.
Please let us know how your Bunny gets on :)

flopsy's chest

Thank-you for your advise i will ask my mum to get him an appointment. Flopsy has been before when he first got his chest problem and the vet said to keep him in, in the winter (which i do) and gave him some medicine to begin with, but i do think he needs to go again
love robyn, flopsy and the backyard buns

Can you ask your Mum to phone the Vet now? Maybe get her to read this thread you have posted. Flopsy may have infection in her lungs which is very serious for a Bunny. The sooner Flopsy sees a Vet the better as she appears to need more medicine. I think your Mum needs to know that Flopsy cant wait any longer to be seen by a Vet

Flopsy's chest

My mum said he doesn't need to go because he will never get better and that the vets have tried everything to stop it so she's not going to take him. do you think he really badly needs to go?

Awwww yeah take him to the vets - poor thing he will keep getting it but at least cure him for now he will be fine for ages once it clears up

He may have snuffles (pasturella) which can cause the syptoms you are describing. Sometimes it can't be "cured" but if you get your rabbit treated properly and quickly when he has a flare up then he can still live a happy life and it can be managed. But if it isn't treated they can go downhill very quickly, within days or even hours. I would really get him to a vet as soon as you can. Hope he's better soon :D
