Spent much of today ringing around veterinary practices & quizzing them on their knowledge of rabbits & got quite some amusing answers, here`s a couple of them:
1) Well we haven`t got a rabbit specialist but our practice manager is quite old so i imagine he`s seen lots of rabbits!!!!
OR
2) Receptionist: "No, we don`t have a rabbit specialist but we are a small animal practice".
Me: " Yes but do you have any vets who have done further training in rabbit health?"
Receptionist: " No but as i said we are a small animal practice".
Me: " Yes but rabbits are actually classed as exotics".
Receptionist: " Oh are they? I suggest you find one of them then!"
Fortunately i did eventually phone a practice who were very helpful. I explained my concerns regarding my present vet with the rabbits & that i was basically now looking for a more knowledgeable one. She said they didn`t actually have a vet who specialised in rabbits but recommended one of their 6 vets as apparently he has done a fair bit of further training in rabbit health & was felt to be quite knowledgeable.
I also spoke to the veterinary nurse for quite a while & she too seemed quite knowledgeable & when i discussed various rabbit ailments with her she really did know what she was talking about.
So I have now asked my old vets to fax over all my pets details to the new practice & fingers crossed i have now found a decent vet to look after my babies.

P.S. I have also written a letter explaining to my old vet exactly why i have left.
