  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

more questions about timing of vacs!

Hi One of my bunnies is due her vacs in March. My other bunnie is now 14 weeks old so was going to get her done asap. However, at the moment we live in a lower risk area, but we are going to be moving to semi-rural area backing onto open farmland hopefully around the April/May time. What is it best to do about getting my baby vaccinated, get her done now so she is protected and then again in the summer, or get her done in March with my other bun so she is protected for when we move, just want maximum effect. The area I am moving to is near Chelmsford, Essex and is very open compared to where we are now. After reading the myxi stories, I am becoming paranoid.

Thank you.

I'd get Baby Bunny done now then again 6 months later.
As you are moving to a high risk area I'd get your other Bun done again now too (aslong as his last one was at least 6 months ago) then again in 6 months like Baby Bun. You will need to vaccinate 6 monthly thereafter plus treat both Bunnies for fleas and use netting over the hutch and run.

Yes i agree with jane get her done now ready for the move, being near a high risk area like myself, you would need to have done every 6 months

Thank you both very much. I will get them done next week and then follow it up again in 6 months. Although I am looking forward to living with more space around me, this is one aspect that really scares me. I know it could potentially happen anywhere but I suppose the chances increase with open land nearby. I will just have to do everything possible to minimise the risk.

Thanks again.

xx
