  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

more sneezing and snuffling

I've got Fudge sneezing and Sugarplum snuffling now as well as twinkle, though nothing near as bad as her. Not sure what to do with the pair of them. Fudge has had snuffly bouts before which has cleared up by itself. I've got twinkle booked in for depocillin injections, but what should i do with sugarplum is it possible that baytril or septrin would work on her even though it did nothing for Twinkle?

I've been keeping twinkle as seperate as possible too, i'm tempted to try and bond them all if they're all snuffling now! Don't like seeing poor twinkle all lonely :?

I would take them ALL back to the Vets. You need to make sure that the infection is not in the lungs aswell as the upper respiratory tract.
Septrin is more likely to be effective than Baytril BUT only a Vet should decide what to prescribe after a full examination.

thats ok I wasn't going to self perscribe was just wondering whether one of the easier alternatives would be likely to work on sugarplum if she caught the infection from twinkle and it didn't work on her if that makes sense.

I have to take twinkle to the vets everyweek for the injection, how many doses to they usually give of the depocillin?

My Vet gives a DAILY course of Depocillin for 1 week. Some less Rabbit savvy Vets may be nervous of doing that.....
