The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Jasper smells

Hi all,

After checking Jasper (as he smells of poo) his undercarriage looks a bit bare of fur and is a bit stained.

Could this be because he has mis-aligned teeth (which has to be burred every 3 weeks) that he can't clean himself proper? He's not due to go back for at least a week or two, but the teeth are already long again.

How and what should I use to clean him? Is there a special shampoo I can use or baby wipes or what?

Also if anyones got any tips on how to hold him - he is soooo wriggly and hates being picked up - even the vets have real problems holding him and have to gas him just to get him to be still! We normally hold him with two hands but he bucks with back legs and wriggles sooo much!

Any advice appreciated

Hello

I would wrap him up firmly in a towel and hold him on your lap whilst you are sitting down.
You can use unscented hypo-allergenic Baby Wipes to clean him up. But if his skin looks very sore he may need an antibiotic ointment too.
Is it his incisors that are long and grow rapidly? If so have you discussed having them removed with your Vet?

I would advise you take your Bun to your Vet tomorrow as if Bun is mucky and his teeth are long he does need Veterinary attention ASAP

Thanks Jane, yes the vet was going to contact another vet who specialise in rabbit dentistry, so for now its burring every 3 x weeks.

Its only been 2 weeks since he last went, so he's still got a week or so to have them burred again, he's not filthy dirty just smelly and a bit yellow/pooey on his bottom, was going to clean it myself for now - I don't know if its sore, it just looks kinda pink but I did find a lot of furr in the kitchen this morning, so don't know if thats where its come from?

I would give his undercarriage a good check. If his fur is falling out from around his Bum it might mean the underlying skin is infected or he may have some urine scald.
