Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Young Bun
Hi all
not been around for ages, but would like to wish you all a very happy new year.
a couple of my rabbits have got quite a bit of moult at the moment and wondered if anyone had any advice other than grooming, i've seen in fur and feather some tablets that claim to help stop moult just wondered if anyone had used them.
many thanks

Alot of people on here feed papaya tablets to help with buns ingesting fur when they're grooming themselves especially during moulting. They don't lessen the moult just help prevent any problems that may be caused by ingesting too much fur.

The main thing you can do is grooming regularly (not always easy with some buns I know! ) but there is really nothing else (as far as I know) that you can do to help with moulting.

One thing I would say is that sometimes a heavy moult can trigger fur mites, so if you spot any dandruff like flakes when grooming (especially at the back of the neck or base of tail areas) you'll need to go to the vets to get some Ivermectin to treat them with.
