  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Bun suddenly doing very small droppings.

Middy

Warren Scout
Albert (10 weeks old approx) was doing fine re his loo habits but has started doing tiny droppings today. Some are large, some are very small.

Any thoughts? He is on junior food and hay (but seems to be eating less hay). He is drinking water throughout the day.

Thanks in advance
M

Small poos can indicate a sluggish GI tract. If he was my rabbit I would keep a very close eye on him. :D

Thanks Nicole. I'll keep my eye on him. He was just having a run about (with Middy, my more established and currently very territorial rabbit, out of the room!)

He's just done lots of normal ones now. Am hoping he is OK. I did catch him eating his litter earlier - he is a house rabbit so we do need to use litter...

Hmmm...

Litter should not be clay litter, this can cause blockages in buns. Safe litter would be megazorb, carefresh, wood based pellets or wood shavings.

My little Dougal had the start of gut statis. He was doing normal poos and really small ones too (now I think about it i did find tiny poos in the shed, but with 2 rabbits in there it was hard to figure out who's they were).

Try and get him to eat more hay and drink plenty of fluids.
The moment he stop's eating get him to the vet.
