  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

fur falling out this winter

A friend of a friend has a little dwarf lop who isn't very well and she was asking my advice but I had no idea what was wrong.

He is fine in the summer but last winter and this she has said he looses his fur in patches.

He lives outdoors in a hutch and by the sounds of it is well looked after. She doesn't really have much money and so doesn't really want to take his to the vets. Can anyone suggest what the problem may be. Sorry for the lack of info but I don't really know this lady very well - in fact I know the bunny better as he used to be my sister-in-laws!

Did the bunny not lose fur when he was living with your sister-in-law? he did live outside when he was with her?
I'm sure you get some kind of help with vet bills if you are not working, am I right?
I'd be a worried him being outside with fur missing he'll have nothing to keep him warm apart from hay..
What's the name of those things that you pop in the microwave & they stay warm for hours ?
