  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

VHD vaccine

Just a few questions..
Can buns still get VHD when vaccinated, like myxi?
Does it matter if vaccines overlap a bit? Like if I wanted to get Nina vaccinated now when she's not due for another month, is that OK?
Can vaccines ever be not 100% effective, or 'run out' before 12 months?
Just trying to see if VHD is a possibility and give Nina the best chance if it could be that that killed the others :?

Whilst a rabbit is vaccinated for VHD they are 100% protected, im unsure though wether there is any decrease in protection the closer you get to the due date X

No vaccine can claim to be 100% effective as it depends on the Bun having an adequate immune response to it. So if a Bun were vaccinated when a bit poorly or stressed then the MIGHT not produce an immune response to give effective protection.
It is OK to vaccinate again after 11 months (my Vet has done so)
Yes, vaccinated Bunnies can still get VHD although it is RARE and often a subaccute type.

Forgive me for asking but did the Vet do a PM on Squishy? VHD should be evident by the appearance of the Liver. Tissue sampling would confirm

They are doing one Jane, but being the weekend he doesn't think the results will be back until Tuesday. Fingers crossed Nina is fine :?

I am sure she will be, but can quite understand how worried you are.
