  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Cleaning their poo!

Jonny

Warren Scout
Have just taken out a dust pan and brushed up their first day's poo (I was amazed how much they produced!)

Then it occurred to me - should I have left it there for a few days, because they do like to eat it, so I believe?!

They don't eat the rabbit 'tods' that are everywhere, it's special poo that they eat as soon as it comes out. If you see some it tends to be bigger and squishier than tods.

If you want to train them to use one place, or a litter tray, then I'd leave some of the poo and wee in that area rather than clean it all away.

hey johnny , i started using a dustpan and brush when i first got harv but then someone on here meantioned a cat litter scoop instead. its perfect!
i clean most of harveys out everyday and leave a tiny bit in the corner of his hutch where he tends to wee hoping he will poop there. so far no luck but hopefully he will catch on lol

Some buns do eat some of their normal poop too. Deej only eats it (Um hate to say this but) straight from source. If you see it on the floor he's not going to be eating it.
