  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Mr Snow's problem

Wise Old Thumper
My poor Snow has a scurfy patch between his sholder blades, his skin is not sore but the patch is very dandruffy and the fur there has thinned.

I have some animal tea tree stuff which I bought from one of the bunny sights, should I try that?

Anyone elses rabbits have this?

I agree with Mandy - sounds like he has mites. Best get him to the vets as anything you can buy from a shop doesn't work very effectively.

Oh my poor little man. Does this mean that Little Miss Treacle will have them too? I haven't noticed anything on her.

Not necessarily but she might (pardon the pun) do. Not sure if it's standard to treat bonded pairs :? Mites can sometimes start to become a problem if a bun has a weakened immune system - so if one bun of a pair has them and the other doesn't, I'd suspect that the bun may perhaps have an underlying problem which has caused its body to not be able to cope with the mites. Don't panic - it needn't necessarily be anything serious, but worth getting checked out I'd say. Good luck xx

Thanx. Will take them together to the vets anyway.

Poor Snow boy he's already a special needs bun.

Aw dont worry. it was fairly straightforward when Audrey had mites- she only needed one injection and after a few weeks her fur had grown back.
