  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hair Loss.......

I was asked by a vet at work to see if anyone here has any ideas about a bunny that she has been treating. He is an entire male about 2 yrs old and has suddenly started to loose the fur on his belly. His skin is fine, no hair loss anywhere else and he seems ok apart from a bald belly! I thought possibly he is allergic to his bedding? Or maybe due to hormones? but just wanted to see if anyone has any ideas that I can pass on :D
Thank you
Em

Has he been humping something a lot!!

Is the skin inflammed? If so is his willy  'displaced' making him wee up his belly?

I know someone with a male bunny that has pulled out all its fur from its belly and around its bum :(

the vets have told her its stress, the bun did not have a very good life before he came to her.

but she has to put cream from the vet on him everyday

Thank you for your replies. I haven't seen the rabbit myself but I don't think the skin is inflammed. I suppose its possible that he has been humping and worn the fur away  I also thought maybe he was nest building and got a bit carried away pulling his fur out
