Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

nerve damage?

Hi
My lovely rescue bunny, Honey, suffered a fracture in her pelvis, which was causing her to lift her right leg up. The vet said to rest her and give her metacam and that this should heal by itself, although she warned that there could be some nerve damage. After a few days Honey was able to put pressure on her leg and seemed to be hopping about normally. However, I just noticed that she is no longer putting pressure on the leg and seems to be dragging it, when I touch it there seems to be no reflex or response, does this mean there is nerve damage, and what is the long term outlook? I am worried and it upsets me to see her struggling like this. She is eating drinking and pooping fine.

Hello

It sounds like there is some nerve damage. How long ago was the fracture? It is possible for the nerves to regenerate in some cases and I wonder if your Vet might advise some physiotherapy for Honey? This would encourage a good blood supply to the effected limb and promote tissue healing. It will also help maintain muscle tone. Do ask your Vet about Physio FIRST though.
