  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

another vaccination question (well a few actually)

teegra has got to have his myxi vaccination on 28th november, as duchess will be going along for company i thought i would get her done too as she is homeopathically done ATM but i think i would prefer her to be done conventionally.
first question :> do i need to stop her homeopathic vaccs before she is done at the vets or is it ok to be done at the vets whilst still protected homeopathically???

second question :> i am sure i read somewhere that both vaccs should not be done at the same time, is this true?

third question :> if this is true which should i get done first and how long can i wait before getting the second one done?

forth and final question :> i do have a good rabbit vet but i read in here about giving myxi partly in the ear but when they done teegs 6 months ago they done it all in the neck with some under the skin (there was a little fluid lump - gross :? ) which is the best way? and will the vet think i am rude if i ask them to change their normal way of vaccinating?

thanks everyone :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

All I can help you with is by saying yes myxi and VHD jabs shouldn't be done at the same time... they should be done 2 weeks apart. My buns had myxi jab done first then VHD 2 weeks later :thumb:

I would have thought you should stop the homeopathic vaccs first, but I dont actually know. Im sure someone on here will be able to tell you though.

The vet wont give both vaccs at the same time. I take my bunnys back 2 weeks after the first vaccination to get the second one.

I doubt your vet will think your rude if you ask him about giving the vac another way

and as for the last question and i hope I'm not mistaken cause its all very confusing!!! I thought as long as some of the vaccine goes under the skin it doesn't matter where they do it. My vet does it all in one spot

my vet gives it all in one spot too. I think I read on here somewhere that some people get it done differently though

ok thanks everyone!

will book in for the 2 myxis then book duchess in for VHD 2 weeks after.
might ask about the different myxi methods when i ring up.

thank again

harvey went for his myxi yesterday and the vet did abit under his scruff and another bit just by his ear aswell.

he also doesnt do the VHD vaccine but i asked for it to be ordered in and they are able to get it :D adviced me also about a 2 week gap between the two.

i'm just going to repeat whats been said but mine have two weeks between the two jabs. My sisters rabbits had the vhd first but only as they had ran out of myxi. I have moved vets so many times recently but they all have done it in the scruff of the neck. No knowledge of homoepathy methods.
