  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Harry isn't himself!

Harry had his VHD jab yesterday evening, and he is a bit out of sorts  He is just sitting, all subdued, on his platform and has not eaten all of his pellets which I gave him at 8am this morning (not the norm for him). I have been at work today so cannot tell you if he drank then, but he hasn't since I got home at 3.30pm.

Is it ususal for them to be a bit off colour after their VHD? He was fine after his Myxi :?

I will try and get him out soon, but he seems to want to stay put at the moment.

Perhaps he knows he is going in for de-plumming next week?

Hi

A few of my Buns have been a bit 'off colour' for 24-48 hours after their VHD Vaccs
I would try to encourage Harry to eat some Veggies (to ensure some fluid intake) and also allow him to have a hop about (exercise helps keep the guts working).
As long as he has eaten a little and passed some poo/wee I would just keep an eye on him this evening. If he does not eat overnight I would call your Vet for advice in the morning

Also watch for him developing a limp - this can happen with the VHD jab - if this does happen then he will be in a bit of pain so if you can get some metacam that would be best for him.
You will find that any symptoms from the VHD jab usually disappear after the third day.
In the meantime, sending vibes to him :D
