  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Myxi vaccination..probably a stupid question

Right one of my buns was on yearly myxi jabs (I know now that it's meant to be 6 monthly but my vet said yearly) anyway he's due in November , I want to get him done asap especially as he is over the 7-8 months it's meant to be effective for...his girlie bun friend is due in December (she's 6 monthly from Eve) Now would it be a problem if I book them in early November to both be done? Can you over dose Myxi vaccine??

Thanks

you can get them both done now bec :D ? i once made a mistake and told the vet my bertie was in for mysi when he had it the fornight provious    so he had in twice in that month  with no ill effects it just really was useless as it wouldnt take because he already had it....

I thought I'd read somewhere that in extremely bad areas myxi jabs can be given every few weeks anyway :?

Thanks Eve..Just getting nervy about all the Myxi about..don't think it's near here yet..but not worth the risk!

nope its certainly is not, make sure they put part into the base of the ear bec!

Bertie had his myxi jab last week and I mentioned to my vet what Jane had said about FHB's research about putting it into 3 sites ie. base of both ears and scruff. She said she hadn't heard about it but was very happy to put some under the skin in the base of both ears, so that's what she did!!
