  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

I took tobey to the vet this morning for his routine check up and myxi booster, and he did a little wee in the box, and i just mentioned this casually to the vet, and she looked at it and said "this?" and looked worried, it was a sort of banana colour, sort of thick but not sludgy, and she said i should keep an eye on his urine and if it is still like it in a couple of days come back as it could be stones or too much calcium.

i did a bit of research online and they all said that the pale yellow colour is normal but a curry or mustard powder colour is not - it was neither of those. it wasn't particularly sludgy or chalky either, just a bit thick.

he drinks plenty throughout the day and doesn't strain to urinate as i hear him go sometimes, and also I check his bedding and often it is either clear or a rust colour.

should i be worried? what can be done if there is a problem? i don't feed him vegetables that often as I was advised that it is not a good idea, he has carrots and carrot tops mainly perhaps once a week or so.

has anyone else had any experience with this? what happened?

thanks for any input :)

ally and tobes.

In the past 8 yr. w/ all my rabbits, the urine colors changes. My current bunny, Goofball, sometimes the color of urine is the light yellow color, sometimes you can see thru, and some other time, it's the heavy milky yellow color, kind of like a paint color heavy. Talking to 2 vets, they both said it's normal. Not necessary one color means healthier than the other.

If a rabbit go outside and eat exotic grass, then color of urine will be Burgundy color, that is normal too.

I've given up panicking about urine colours now, mine have produced quite a few shades and textures between them. I sometimes see think yellowey ones but none have had a problem!

Have to agree I've seen Deej's pee in many colours  most embarrassing is when he drinks it - being an indoor bun I pray he never decides to do that when we have guests round!!!
