Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rabbit Insurance - anyone got any?

Does anyone have insurance for their buns? If so, where from? All I can find is petplan and it's quite pricey. I figured there must be other companies....

Anyone know any?

The cheapest I found was £8 a month per bun, £50 excess, so I didn't bother. I'm planning on building up a savings amount and hope they don't get anything too expensive. I've already had two bills of £20 which wouldn't have been covered due to the excess, so I'm not sure it's worth it.

try pet protect - about £6 per bunny - I have 3 of mine insured with them.

they pay up quickly, never quibble, will pay direct to your vet if you want. the excess is £55.

i know if you have a lot of small claims it doesnt seem worth it but if you have accident prone bunnies like me it is a lifesaver (Gus £1000 claims last year, £200 this year so far, Lola £200 this year so far!). They paid up for my last claim with Gus when he'd been fighting with Lola and I didnt think it would be covered but happily it was.

I`m with Petplan and pay £6.53 for Bracken, he`s been through a lot this year and has run up a few bills.

I found Petplan very good in paying up and what is covered. On another point with Petplan my friends horse had a £500 bill which wasn`t quiet covered with them after a few letters from her vet they paid out, which suprised us all.

I'm £120 per month for my horse, my own 13 buns & all my temporary Fosters up to a maximum of 12.

I'm cancelling it though, cos keep forgetting when it goes out 7 bouncing my gym membership!!!

I'm with PetPlan, paid £80 for the year for Princess. It's a £60 excess. Just got a cheque from when Princess had bloat in September, really easy to claim + got cheque really quickly too!

I don't have a lot of faith in these kind of insurance, but if you sign up, ask this question:

What does the insurance NOT cover? What kind of surgery, procedure, medicine etc. does it NOT cover?

You need to ring pet protect for a quote.

The insurance covers dentals etc and is lifetime cover. I have to say they have been great with me - and I thought Gus' insurance would rocket after his massive bill last year but it went up by all of 50p per month!
