Hi Folks,

I’m a bit worried Nathan is getting dehydrated.

He’s slowed down his intake of fluids and with him been on a heat pad all day/night this worries me. I’m making his food as sloopy as possible to try and help get fluids in him.

What are the signs of dehydration in rabbits?

We are back at the vets tonight for another Penicillin injection so will discuss the possible use of sub-cut fluids with Rebecca.

If you gently pull up the skin over his spine it should spring straight back down. If it goes down very slowly ('tenting') that is indicative of dehydration. As is very concentrated wee. Sometimes the area just above the orbit of the eye sinks in too.

Thanks for the information Jane. :)

His urine is definitely more concentrated then usual. Very dull/dark in colour and with a strong smell. His skin certainly doesn’t spring straight back down.

I’ve never given injections before. Will see what the vet says tonight.

Hmmmm, sounds like he may be in need of sub-cuts or if he is very dehydrated it would need to be IV.
Good luck at the Vets.
