The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Abscess at Base of Ear

Hi there,

Alice has had a few problems over the past week or so - she stopped eating again but this was put down to the lack of fibre due to her being unable to eat hay because of her only having one tooth.

Whilst I was there I asked the vet to check her ears because she does seem to be completely deaf. They found a big lump that feels like an abscess at the base of her ear where it attaches to her head. It's on the side where she still has her eye so isn't connected to her eye removal.

I have booked her in for the abscess removing under a GA on Friday, I had to wait this long until her guts had returned to normal after her spell not eating!

My question is:

Has anyone has something similar to this?
What should I expect when I bring her home? When she had her eye removed, there was a drain tube in for a few days after. The vets said this wouldn't be needed if they manage not to pop the abscess.

I'm obviously apprehensive about her having a GA at her age, but I understand it needs to be done.

I asked the vets about doing an x-ray to see what else might be going on, but they said it probably wouldn't be worth it because the abscesses are not bone related. Is this right?

Please send her good luck and get well soon vibes...

Gemma

Good luck Alice!!!

Sending lots of positive vibes your way.

Please let us know how she gets on at the vets

Sending you both a big hug,

Nicola and Harvey xxx

Thanks Nicola and Harvey!

I'll pass on the message to Alice-bun...

I'll definately let you know how she gets on. I have to take her in at 8.30 and they're going to let me bring her home as soon as she comes round and has eaten something. I'm taking her a packed lunch of all her favourite food so she can come home quicker!

I'll be taking a few days off work next week to look after her - to the amusement of my colleagues! Why do people not understand that buns are like kids and they need lots of love and looking after!?
