  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

It does not sound like an infectous disease from that google link. :? More like a problem caused by change in diet.

14 ill bunnies sounds like some major infection to me.

Mucoid enteritis

Hi. :) Oh Dear :( Poor You :( as you now know this is very serious :( many years ago when i had first got into bunnies I had to deal with this  :( I lost 11 buns over a weekend & the vets then knew nothing about it  :( I turned to breeders whom I contacted from the BRC mag :) they gave me lots of advice which I then passed on to my vet :) you have to get the gut moving at all costs :( then i used Prepulsid (no longer available)get lots of fluids into them & try to keep their body tempreture up(use a heat pad or hot water bottle) give lots of pain relief :( At that time nobody knew if it was an infection or caused by parasites but a breeder friend of mine lost nearly all her rabbits including adults :( Baytril was prescribed & seemed to be the right drug as some did survive :) I also tried with good results the old sulphur based drug terramycin :) so thats an option if you don't get any improvement in your bunnies :) healing vibes coming your way as i know you are going to need them. :(

Are the Buns being treated with a coccidiostat too?

Mucoid Enteropathy in large rabbit groups, especially youngsters, can be the result of coccidiosis.
