  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

first things to do when a bunny is ill?

I would really like some advice from experienced bunny owners. What are your first steps when your bunny becomes unwell?

Baby is generally not herself and lying down alot when usually she would be running after me and jumping on the bed etc.

I have given her a variety of food, tummy rub and fresh water. what else can I do?

she is also running away if i try to stroke her. Will take her to the vets first thing and she will probably be fine tomorrow - just worried!

yes pooing and eating fine - although not jumping at me for the food bowl. will go and clean them out so I can inspect poo's in the morning!

thats good that she's pooing and eating. Sorry I can't think what else to suggest, my bunnies go through phases of resting alot from time to time

thankyou for replying - I just feel so helpless.

She is so active all the time which is why its so worrying - her bunny boyfriend is just sat at my feet looking at me as if to say "what is wrong?"

Fingers crossed all will be well in the morning - I will leave them in with me tonight.

I'd leave some yummy treats too, might cheer her up as well as keep her eating until the morning - incase it is her tum :(

Hope she is ok tomorrow xxx
