  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Amy's right eye is a bit yucky at the moment, the skin on the innerside (not in the eye though) looks a bit inflamed and pussy. Is there anything i can do to help till she see's the vet? I don't want to put anything near her eye unless I know what I'm doing!

Just bathe it with plain cooled boiled water and then get her to the Vets for some antibiotic eye treatment and a Dental Check

well I tried to bathe her eye with cool boiled water but I'm not sure i got any thing off, its quite crusty now no goo

Just keep trying with the bathing, it's the best thing to do. She def needs to see a vet, cos its most likely some kind of infection that will need drops.

Hope bun is feeling better soon,

Nicola

I hope I'm not speaking to soon but I think the eye's looking better :D

what causes eye problems, and am I right in thinking certain breeds can be more susceptible to them?

There are many reasons - the only one i hav some across personally is when bunny has teeth problems first. But like Jane said could be eye infection. Have you got vets appointment or are you getting one in the morning?

no they couldn't fit me in before wednesday :? though if it carries on like this it will be better by then
