  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Teeth Query

Since I've had Alfred, he's seem to needed his teeth doing at 4 - 5 week intervals (has suddenly stopped eating), although since the last session he has been eating tons more hay, and his droppings have gone a more golden colour.

Would you take him in to get his teeth checked at 4 weeks? Or wait and see what happens?

The reason I'm undecided, is that I do have to go away with work for a few days soon, and would hate anything to go wrong while I'm not here.

Which teeth need doing, is it his front ones or back ones? Is it done under GA or not? How far away is your vets and how stressed does he get by going there?

It's his back teeth that need doing, and he does allow the vet to do them without a GA. He doesn't get that stressed with going, he's been that often recently, and plus before Matilda arrived he went out in the car for lots of dates!

If hes stoped eating then they need doing id get it done now, must be the back ones or you would have seen they needed doing. val

I would go and get them checked and sorted out asap. You will end up going away mithering yourself daft if you don't.

'd get them checked at 4 weeks, you'll just worry whilst you're away and the person looking after them may not notice if htere is a change in his eating habits.

That's what I was worried about.. I'll get him checked over next week to be on the safe side.. fingers crossed they might say he doesn't need doing.
