  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

is there any reason why rabbits that normally drink a full bottle every day would suddenly stop and only drink about a quarter of that over the last 4 days?

with work and moving house i haven't been able to get to the vets as they've been fine in themselves. had they appeared ill i would have taken them to the emergency vets but they're 100% and eating normally.

we're off to the vets tomorrow but am i over reacting if they're otherwise ok? it seems strange that it's both of them not just one :?

Have you checked that the water bottle is not bunged up? Or that the ball-thingy in the nozzle is not covered in lime-scale?

Pippa's not drinking as much as she was a couple of weeks ago and I'm putting it down to the weather cooling down a bit

Mine drink loads less if they are on veg - and it's weather dependent too!

If you're worried, buy another water bottle, or even put a bowl in just to make sure they're ok.

I have to admit to making a huge error with my two a couple of years back - I must have squeezed the bottle before turning it over, making suction so no water came out! I realised they hadn't drunk much, let them out, and the immediately went for a puddle to drink! - it was only then i realised! (poor buns, stupid me :( )

Replace the water bottle to a bowl for the next few days. Measure the amt. If she drinks more, then there is something wrong w/ that bottle.
