  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

My friends bunny Nell is very poorly. She is at the vet with bloat.
We need special vibes sent to her.

Fiona has just phoned the vets and Nell has had a nibble of veg, a painkiller injection and an antibiotic.
But no poo. Hopfully that will come.

Fiona has just txt me, Nell has done one poo! she is not out of the woods yet. But she is in the best place for now. I really hopes she pulls through.

The vet thinks Nell has molar spurs, but is too poorly at the moment to have a GA. But I would think if they burred her teeth just now then she would be able to eat her self and put her weight back on.

What do others think?

Would you weight till she was better and then get her teeth burred or have it done soon?

I thought some vets would do this under sedation rather than a GA? Might be wrong, but I'm sure I've heard of it being done.

Might be a better alternative and less stressful...

my rabbit wasn't even put under sedation when he had his teeth burred every 90 days, they just wrapped him in a towel

They think it's her molars, can vet's still do this without sedation/GA?
I always thought that they had to be knocked out to file and burr them.

Heather had a couple of bouts of stasis, she was treated with metaclopromide (gut stimulant) and painkiller - and she was booked in to have her teeth burred later on that week once she was fully recovered

Been to see Nell with Fiona. Vet is going to burr teeth tomorrow if there is any. But she looks ok not at deaths door. She has done some very small poops but any poos are great, but still not eating much.

Also Fiona took down her Oxbow pellets for Nell last night but today there was Supa Excel pellets in her dish!!!!

I would of thought that was the last thing you would change in a rabbits diet if they were unwell.

So vibes for Nell and Fiona tomorrow please.
