  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Post-spay care

Hi everyone! Poppy's having her spay on Wednesday and I'm going to bring her hutch into our conservatory for when she comes home. I know I shouldn't put a bed of hay in or woodshavings (she'll have hay to eat, of course), but what does everyone think the best way of making her hutch up would be? I'm thinking of torn up newspaper and a snuggly towel, etc. Has anyone got any ideas - what did you do after your bun's spay? Look forward to any advice! :)

I brought Bella indoors after her opp

This is what I used, in her cage, I just used vetbed :)

Mine went in a metal run in the lounge with their usual carrying case beds! On the floor of the run I put newspaper. I also bought some Pampers baby changing pads, the disposable ones. They are soft on one side and waterproof on the other. Cost about a fiver for 12. They were brilliant! I also put one inside the carrier for them to sleep on.

I only kept them totally confined for 2 days then they started to get fed up and tore up all the newspaper! Tinkerbell had the full run of the kitchen again after 3 days and Sooty had the conservatory again after the same length of time. I waited a week before letting Sooty back out into the garden.

Good luck!
