  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Since Alfred had his teeth done last week, he has been drinking an awful lot, him and Matilda are now getting through approx 1.2L in 24 hours.

I took him back to the vets on Sat, and they checked him over, and said keep an eye on h im for 2 weeks, and if it doesn't settle down then bring him back.

There was a small amount of diarroeha (sp!) last night, but he has done normal droppings since - although they are bigger than usual. No more watery stuff today, but droppings a bit squidgy.

I've rung the vets and he's going back again this afternoon.

Does anyone have any advice? Or seen anything similar?

Jx

PS - forgot to add he is still eating well, and pounces on his hay when he sees it.

Sending big snuggles to Alfred, let me know how you get on. It must be the shock of having Matilda

Thanks Kay, the vet thinks he has a stomach infection, and has put him on a 5 day course of baytril, I did ask if it was ok to put over his feed, and she said no problem.

So bless him, I had him out of the run, and he scoffed all the pellets despite the baytril.

Teh vet has also recommended treating him for parasites too, so he's got 5 days of that, the baytril is AM & PM, and he panacur in the middle of the day - thank goodness I work from home!

Fingers crossed he will be back to normal soon..

Matilda is giving him loads of snuggles.

Jx
