Having read Louise's threads and visited her sanctuary the other weekend I have set up a sponsored "Smash the rabbit hutch" on ebay to try and help raise some finances for Hopper Haven. Please visit the auction and encourage your friends to do so too.

If everyone on this forum had a go we'd raise £4752!! Think Louise would be able to get all her baby buns sorted for that!!
The two rabbits were rescued today; they were bought to be bred but Hubby is now "indisposed" and his wife didn't want to look after them. Jerry is 6 months but Jenny only 3 so keeping fingers crossed she is too young to be pregnant. They were being kept in this hutch under the stairs, Jerry was allowed out sometimes, but Jenny wasn't as she ate wires.
With so many stories like this one I wanted to try and do something practical for Louise who is trying to make a difference to rabbits lives and, as all of us know, Vets are getting increasingly expensive and in rescue situations this is often the first place the buns need to go. If we could all put just £1.50 towards the costs it would all mount up! Thanks

That's a great idea! Have you thought about trying to get some media coverage for the actual smash? I bet they'd like that - start with the local press as obviously it's a local rescue, but if you get really good take up on the ebay auction, you could go wider  Might be worth getting one of these threads put in the new 'fundraising' section of this website too??

Sorry, me again   I'd suggest on the ebay ad, if it lets you, to link straight to this page http://www.rspca.org.uk/servlet/Satellite?pagename=RSPCA/RSPCARedirect&pg=RabbitsPetCare&marker=1&articleId=1154077763133 rather than to the RSPCA main page, as it's quite a palava to find the information from the homepage so people might not bother. This page starts off straight away with the hutch size information (maybe even add the hutch size stuff to the auction info?) so people who found the auction by looking for a hutch, are taken straight to the relevant advice??

Eek I am bad enough about having my pic taken without the press there  Thats it you'll have to smash it yourself Chloe. Or maybe Tilly can do it.

So far we have made about £62.00  I'm really disappointed as I thought more people would want to get behind us and get these baby bunnies neutered. The money raised so far will cover the cost of 2 and Louise currently has in excess of 31 :?

Have you tried publicising the event elsewhere? E.g. the RWA might send out a message to their mailing list and you could also contact the local paper about it?

This was an excellent idea as it was awareness raising, I hope you got some publicity.
I missed the auction on Ebay as I've been off line for a while but would still like to send my £1.50 as I'm fully behind 'Smash the Hutch' I detest those tiny hutches sold in pet shops and always tell the staff they are too small.
How do I send or paypal the money?

Hi Rabswood, if you send a cheque to Louise at Hopper Haven that would be great! If you pm her she'll be able to give you details. Thank you. And thank you to all of you who supported us in this. Out of the 2500 I put on we sold 92, so raised £150.00 for Louise's buns. :D
Although I am chuffed we raised this I am also dissapointed that not more members wanted to support us in this. The £150.00 will cover the cost of 5 babies being neutered and Louise has 31+. Like I said in the initial appeal, if everyone on this forum had supported us just £1.50 we would have raised well over £4000.

Can't you just relist the whole idea on ebay? Some of us were on holiday and did not see the event in time. And make it a sticky topic in one or more sections of the forum.
Beany

Definitely relist it Chloe - don't smash it for a while yet!!
You'll give the others who haven't seen it yet a chance, and those of us who were waiting for pay day to have some more goes :D

Too late!!! :!: Once Louise got an axe in her hands there was no stopping her!!!!  Bunny mistreaters beware!!
Thank you so much to everyone who supported Hopper Haven; Tilly accepted the cheque on behalf of Louise who is a tad camera shy!! I'd just like to add that the cheque was made out directly to Louise's vets, the finances are that needed, so once again, thank you to everyone who sponsored us. :D :D
Anyway, here are the photos of Louise having fun!! And if anyone missed the auction and would like to help with the cost of neutering the baby buns please pm Louise and she can give you details of where to send your cheque. There is a possibility we may hold another auction nearer to Christmas as, unfortunately, these pants hutches are all too common  So keep an eye out!!

Can't edit posts on this site so just to add we raised £150 for the rescue and a charity has offered to support some of the cost as well!! :D
So once again - Thank you!!

Thankyou so much for organising this Chloe and to everyone who participated :D
It was VERY satisfying to smash that horrid tiny hutch 8)
The money raised will help tremendously with the neutering costs. There are so many rabbits to neuter that I am monopolising most of the vet's surgery time :? I have them booked weeks in advance as the oldest of the babies are coming of age.
