  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Young Bun
Captain rupert is very bright and alert doing binkies and eating. But he keeps doing watery diahea

Is there anything I can give him while waiting to take him to the vet.

how longs he been doing it for? Could it have been something he ate? I've just spent my afternoon cleaning a pooey bum :( I'm blaming the cauliflower leaves

I have not given him anything but his hay and dried food. The only thing I've changed is his food bowl. Its slightly bigger so I do wonder if his scoffed more than normall.

He does seem to be getting a little better and is eating more and more dried food, I have been hand feeding it too him. (not that he did stop eating). I was waiting till the vets was open this afternoon to ring, but he does seem quite alot better. The poo's are starting to bulk up a little. I will be keeping a very good eye on him. Starting to feel a little less worried.

I would still get him checked over just to be on the safe side.If he is an adult Bun he may have a dental problem, this can cause loose stools in Buns. If he is a baby Bun then any GI upset needs to be taken seriously. Meantime Blackberry leaves are good for Buns with diarrhoea. They alter the PH of the guts making it less favourable for the formation of 'bad bacteria' that can lead to enterotoxaemia.
