Update - My predicament - Exciting news!

Mama Doe
....with trying to find Zion a g/f!! I have now been to two local rescues where finding a female bunny for Zion is proving difficult. I went back to the rescue I got Zion from and all they had were males and mainly bonded pairs which is a bit of a pain. The lady at rescue said there seems to be a distinct lack of lady bunnies in the area :?

With this in mind I have been having a nosey on RR to see which bunnies there are which may be suited to Zion. Zi is a mini rex - I am not fussed if the bun is a bit bigger than him but obviously I cannot take a giant and even a French lop would probably be too big. A neutered female of good temprement (Zi has such a lovely character) would be ideal.

My main worry of getting a bun through a bunny run is the bonding. I know about neutral territory etc etc but I am just terrified that I will get a bun and try and bond them but it just won't happen and then I will have to rehome that bun :? Any advice on this - what I should be looking for?

Anyway here is my extensive list of buns I like:

They will be living in this http://www.focusdiy.co.uk/invt/52503 with a shelf running along the side and the back with a 6x4 run attached to the side with a cat flap or such. I don't know what the likelihoof of a bunny run to Devon (or even somerset) is but I don't want Zion to be alone for much longer.

If anyone can help or offer advice that would be great.

Shiv (attempting to set up a long distance bunny dating agency :D)

P.s. Zion sniffs hello from the sofa asking you to help his mummy find him a girlfriend as his mummy likes the laptop thing lots :) :bunny:

GBH is also a good rescue, it's run by Jackie and I think she's happy to help out with bondings so you could discuss it with her.

Rabbit Residence is v. good also so I imagine yes she'll definately have been seen by a vet - they probably did the neutering/vaccs too. Sometimes an inner ear infection does perminant damage to the bits of the ear that control balence and buns are left with a tilt. Caroline will run through any long term issues that might throw up.

I'm surprised you can't find any girls near you, devon seem to be pretty full of bunnies. It does seem to come in waves though - you'll have one trip and there's no girls and next time no boys ;) Alot of the time rescues pair up quickly because it saves on space and it's nice for the buns to have company as they don't alwasy have as much one to one attention. If you talk to the rescue and let them know what you want though they can let you know when a single bun comes in and you can have first refusal before she gets paired.

Also - are you just looking online? Most rescues only list a small proportion of the rabbits they have in so calling them might turn up a suitable bunny that's avaialble but not on RR :)

Johann - thank you very much for your offer. Much appreciated.

Tamsin - I have been looking in the actual rescues in the local area. 2 out of the three listed on RR. I need to have a look at RSPCA in Exeter although I am not sure they would do a homecheck as I am about an hour away and not sure they would allow me to have a bun without one.

I have no idea whether other rescues will allow me to take a bun with pics of my accomodation. I am more than happy for people to come and take a look from the board if they wish.

I am very smitten with Sally and would happily go all the way to Kent (well it's more kind of London) to get her as both mine and my b/f's parents live there. My only issue is I wouldn't be able to take Zion with me as my parents live in a flat and b/f's parents have a dog. Would the rescue take him in for the weekend to bond him and then I can take them both home at the end of it? It's a long journey though - 4 hours at least. Any advice?

Thanks again for your help.

I'd talk to Jackie - I can't remember off hand whether she boards them whilst bonding. It might depend how much space she has. I'd discuss it with her and she what she thinks on the distance etc. She's pretty helpful to chat to :)

My friend showed me some websites of some lovely looking rescues in Dorset. Would that be too far for you? I can ask her for their websites if you're interested.

Dorest is a bit far. Depends how far into Dorset really. I wouldn't want to go and not come back with anything as it's a lot of petrol etc. Only reason I am happy with the London/Kent one is because i would make a long weekend of it visiting our parents. If there could be a bunny run from a Dorset one then that would be good.

The website would great to have a look at though. That's really kind.

Thanks

Oh no how would you choose?! Sally's lovely, parsley's got the prettiest little face (and I love the name!), betty's a rex 2 match zion, Brenda's got the prettiest blue eyes, and tiny's had babies (so obv had a successful bonding before)

Personally I loooove Sophie (I saw her on RR before and thought she was gorgeous!), and Sally's beautiful 2, so I'd want 1 of them

I think most rescues will help with bonding, or will let u take her on understanding that is trial to see if ok with zion. :D

Santa came from GBH, they were bonded at her helper Angela's house, she had them for a few days to make sure they were all ok :D

As for the one with head tilt, Caroline will definitely have taken the bun to a vet so no need to worry about that  Not too sure how the bonding would work though as she usually does them at her place for several days and then likes to deliver them herself, she says it helps give her 'closure' on each rabbit!

There are soooo many gorgeous ones to choose from

I got Littlefoot (and some gerbils!) from GBH. They were really helpful. I took Coffee in to bond them - it was an easy bonding though so we were home again a couple of hours later :D

Well after posting this yesterday I decided to email GBH about Sally and see what they said. I got a reply this morning which was great!!!

Turns out they got Sally at a week old after her and her siblings were left out in the garden of a house. Her family were picked off one by one by a fox and they weren't really bothered until the daughter came back from university and gave them to the rescue. She had a problem with one of her bottom eyelids which was repaired by the vet and doesn't pose a problem at all anymore.

She says her mum, who was pretty much identical looking and has the same temprement, was bonded to a mini rex in Birmingham and they think she is a the ideal size to go with a mini rex.

She is said to be friendly until you pick her up and she does nibble on Jacky's clothes. Thats fine by me - I don't pick Zion up and just give him nose rubs when he wants it. The important thing is that she is Zion's friend and as long as they get on that's cool. I know I will always get cuddles from him.

So now I have to wait for my playhouse to arrive (due to arrive at the store tomorrow) and get it delivered ASAP. I have to talk to my b/f and see what he thinks of going up to London to get her. I am happy to do so but probably won't be for a few weeks.

I am waiting on her reply about reserving her and costs. Am soooooo excited cos she is so gorgeous.

Will keep you posted. BTW if you cannot remember, this one is Sally:
