Just figured I'd post piccies of them
Cairo was a free-ad rat, worried about where he was going to end up so I took him in. Seeing as rats are incredibly social, I adopted two young boys to introduce with him, and they get along great! Tuscany and Kaleb are two out of over 1500 rats that were stuck in a horrible rat hoarding case recently in petaluma, california. They were all crammed in cages, starved of attention, although some rats were running loose around the place also. Most were euthanised, however some lucky ones did make it out alive.

I do have two other boys that were adopted 3 days ago.
They were both owned by someone who lived in an apartment, when they moved out, they abandoned those rats in the apartment without food or water, along with a rabbit (Who is now my foster).
They've been to the vet, have been put in revolution for mites, antibiotics for respiratory infections, and one of the boys has sores on his feet likely from living in a dirty cage that are being treated with epsom salts.
This is one of the boys, he doesn't have mites quite so bad as the other, but he is TERRIFIED of people. Poor guy just doesn't understand that people can be kind. He was literally screaming as my vet had to hold him to check his lungs. Poor guy, rats are so outgoing that I am incredibly shocked with how terrified he is.
And this is the other boy. He is a real sweetie. As I was sitting with him in my lap, stroking him, he was bruxing and eye boggling away (Sign of contentment/happiness) And it made me wonder how some people can be so heartless, and why it was so hard to look after these boys, or why they hated them so much, that they had to abandon them especially without food and water. It's heartbreaking, something so simple can keep such a mistreated and neglected ratty so happy, I just don't understand why people couldn't give it to him, all he asks is for a little love. Sweet little man.
I'm not entirely sure if ALL this fur loss is due to the mites, or if he is simply an "old man rex rat" - We will see once the mites are all treated and his fur grows back in
You can see all his hair loss in these pictures:
And his feet :
Nursing them back to health, showing the black hooded boy that people aren't so bad, and hopefully I can get them all better and let them enjoy the rest of their life, which they deserved right from the start.
