Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

NZs are gorgeous (one of my favs) i have three  they should weigh about 3.5kg where frechies weigh between 4.5 and 5.5 mine frenchie is about 5.0kg

So, he could possibly be a dwarf lop then if thats all NZ whites weigh??

Belle was a dwarf weighed about 2.6- 2.8 i think.

thanks Eve, I am getting him tomorrow so will get you piccies to see if he is what you are after

I have a very large NZ white. Alex is 5.8kg (He's big - not fat - vet was happy with size!!), He's 2&half ish. His partner is a french lop - she's about 6 months old & is slightly lighter & slightly smaller ( - but still growing!)

The official standards are

Adult Buck
4.07-4.974kg (9 - 11 lb)

Adult does
4.54-5.44kg (10-12 lbs)

A lot of bigish side of average white rabbits get labelled NZ even tho NZ are french lop/small giant sized.
